Bioclimatic pergola or PVC membrane?
Two answers to the same problem — controlled shade — behaving very differently in rain, in wind and in upkeep.

In short
A bioclimatic pergola has rotating aluminium louvres, so you control light and ventilation in steps. A PVC membrane retracts completely and costs less, but offers no adjustable ventilation.
Both systems solve the same problem — shade on a terrace — but they solve it differently, and the difference shows every day.
Controlling the light
Bioclimatic louvres rotate from zero to almost ninety degrees, so you adjust light and ventilation without losing cover. A PVC membrane is binary: either extended or retracted.
