External roller shutters and zip screens

External aluminium roller shutters — monoblock, plaster-in, surface-mounted and hinged — plus textile zip screen systems.

In short

All four shutters share the same aluminium slat curtain filled with polyurethane foam and the same drives; they part company at the stage of the building. The monoblock goes into the wall with the window, the plaster-in one before the external insulation, while the surface-mounted and hinged versions fit an already finished house.

What stage is the building at?

The question is not which shutter insulates best, but which one can still be fitted. The sections below show where the box ends up in each case — the one thing a photograph of a finished window cannot show.

    Fabric tensioned in side guides. It cuts solar radiation while keeping the view out, and nobody sees in from the street.

Insulation figures are those declared for the system's standard configurations. Performance on a given opening depends on its dimensions, on the existing joinery and on the quality of the installation.

New build

Monoblock external roller shutters

The insulated PVC box is fitted to the window frame through an adaptor profile, and the assembly goes into the masonry opening as one piece. It removes the thermal bridge above the window instead of adding one, which makes it the only system in the range we recommend for passive houses.

Before the façade

Plaster-in external roller shutters

The aluminium box is fitted above the window before the insulation boards and the render, and its renderable front becomes a substrate for the adhesive, the reinforcing mesh and the decorative render. Nothing protrudes from the façade afterwards.

Surface-mounted external roller shutters

Box and guides are fixed straight to the window frame or to the outside wall — no breaking through, no masonry, no touching the interior finishes. It is the only option on a house that is already finished and lived in.

Shade and air

Hinged external roller shutters

The same surface mounting, but the lower guides carry hinges and aluminium arms that push the curtain outwards. It stops direct radiation on the glass while letting air and diffuse light in — without opening the window.

Filters the light

Zip screen fabric

Fabric tensioned in a zip guided by the side rails, so it does not flap and leaves no light gaps at the edges. It cuts solar radiation while keeping the view out — the only system in the family that does not darken the room.
